Job summary
The job arises from the The Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Comorbid Conditions Strategy 2020-2025 and aims to drive forward the strategy and support the existing Dual Diagnosis Practitioners across Sussex.
Working effectively with people with Co-occurring Substance Use and Mental Health (COSUMH) is a core skill essential to treatment, prevention of future deaths, closing the physical health inequality gap and the reputation of the Trust. Improvements in the care of people with COSUMH is an area in which the trust can improve performance.

Main duties of the job
You will provide professional and clinical expertise and nursing leadership within the Trust's Co-occurring Substance Use and Mental Health (COSUMH) Conditions Strategy. This strategy has built from;
- Dame Carol Black review - high rate of drug related deaths and suicide in people using substances, poor physical health (disinvestment in SMS)
- Recommended NHS England investment in high quality physical & mental health support
- NHSE, NICE and National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health - develop and publish a clear and comprehensive set of evidence-based treatment pathways, with accompanying access and quality standards and implementation support tools.
You will lead on delivering continued development of nursing practice based upon evidence and relevant research within the area of Dual Diagnosis.
The aim is to ensure excellence in nursing practice and that service delivery is based on NICE guidelines and trust approved policies documents and guidance. This will include developing and delivering specialist training, education and development opportunities.
