Job summary
Would you like to work in a passionate, innovative service and join our friendly community-based team working with Children and Young People with Learning Disabilities and their families?
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with experience in Community Mental Health, SEND or Learning Disability to join our service.
We are a multi-disciplinary community team working with families whose children, including looked after children, have moderate to severe learning disabilities with significant psychological, behavioural and communication difficulties. The team is comprised of Clinical Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists, Family Support Workers, Occupational Therapist, Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner, Consultant Psychiatrist, and a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
We use a wide range of psychological models and approaches within the team such as Systemic approaches, Positive Behaviour Support, Functional Analysis, Attachment theory, Mindfulness-based approaches and the Family Partnership Model. We are also keen to incorporate new models of working and welcome applications from someone with additional training in sensory processing or a willingness to undergo training in this area.
You will be supported within the team by senior clinicians and supervised by an Occupational Therapist and will work closely with other specialists within the service, CAMHS and universal children's services.

Main duties of the job
The key components of this job will be to provide:
- A high quality community based service to children with learning disabilities and their families and other staff involved in their care.
- Specialist Occupational therapy assessments and multi-disciplinary interventions for children presenting with challenging behaviours including sensory processing & functional assessments.
- Developing and facilitating parent groups.
- Participate in generic duties within the service including being part of the duty and referrals team
- Consultation and Training to other agencies and services working with children with learning disabilities
- Key lead roles in specific projects e.g. Implementation of care pathways/ team initiatives.
You will need to have significant experience of applying your clinical skills in some or all of the following:
- with complex cases and multi-agency systems;
- with children/young people or adults with a learning disability;
- with looked after children
- in a CAMHS setting or in adults with a learning disability
- at a range of levels including direct work with young people, parents and carers;
- Providing supervision, consultation and liaison.
- managing high levels of clinical risk
Professional development is encouraged through supervision, training, team CPD and wider CAMHS, AHP and Trust events.
There will also be opportunities to network with other OT's within the trust.

The successful candidate will provide effective guidance, supervision and appraisals for junior staff. Previous experience of this is preferred although not essential.
