Job summary

We currently have a vacancy for a full time Band 5 occupational therapist on our 12 monthly rotation. The rotational posts include:

  • Secure services, inpatients at Guild Lodge, Preston
  • Older Adults Care Home liasion, Bamber Bridge
  • Adult Mental Health in-patients, Chorley
  • Community Physical placement in the Falls Prevention Service, Centurion Way, Leyland
  • Adult Community Mental Health Team, Strand House, Preston

You will have the opportunity to develop and enhance your skills using preceptorship and will work with and receive supervision from experienced therapists. We are looking for a therapist who is enthusiastic, motivated and willing to learn. Having experience, a specialist interest, and expertise in mental health occupational therapy is desirable.

Main duties of the job

  • The post is a rotational post, whereby the post holder rotates to a new area of practice every 12 months, ranging from inpatient acute mental health services to forensic mental health.
  • As part of the Occupational Therapy Service the job holder will be required to work in a variety of clinical areas with an allocated case load.
  • Provide individual and group interventions in a variety of settings as part of the overall Occupational Therapy treatment programme.
  • The post holder will supervised to develop their understanding of the relationship between occupation, mental and physical health, to provide occupational therapy utilising assessment from the Model of Human Occupation and C-MOPE.
  • The post holder will be supervised to deliver a range of group and/or individual interventions drawn from relevant frames of reference, demonstrating sound clinical reasoning skills.
  • You will prioritise planning and delivering interventions for people whose mental health problems have a marked impact on their occupational functioning and who have complex occupational needs.
  • The post holder will be working alongside vulnerable adults who experience a range of mental health and challenging behaviours (including on occasions physical health difficulties.

  • Diploma/BSc/MSc in Occupational Therapy
  • Ongoing registration with the Health Professionals Council

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of current best practice in OT (including secure mental health services).
  • Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice
  • Basic knowledge of health legislation and current practice, including CPA and risk assessment and management

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence in the application of the OT process
  • Broad range of under graduate practice placement experience
  • Use of functional assessment and the analysis of occupation.
