Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join LSCFT to work as a permanent Band 5 Occupational Therapist. The role is based within the Older Adult CMH Team at Charnley Fold in Bamber Bridge.

We are looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking Occupational Therapist with an interest working with older adults who wants to expand their clinical skills within mental health. You will have excellent communication skills and can demonstrate sound clinical assessment skills with the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.

Charnley Fold is a supportive and friendly place to work. You will have the opportunity to develop and enhance your skills using preceptorship and will work with and receive supervision from experienced therapists within the team. There are plenty of opportunities for professional development including evidence based practice forums, Occupational Therapy best practice forums, continuing professional development training sessions, and an AHP research forum. We highly value staff health and wellbeing and provide opportunities for one to one and group time within work as well as regular social meet ups.

LSCFT is an exciting place to be an Occupational Therapist, and be highly valued in our Trust's approach to multidisciplinary care. We are committed to delivering excellent services, putting occupation at the centre of our work and championing people's rights for occupational needs to be recognised and addressed.

Main duties of the job

To provide routine occupational therapy interventions in order to maintain, restore or create a match beneficial to the individual between the abilities of the person, the demands of her/his occupations in the areas of self care, productivity and leisure and the demands of the environment. (adapted from Creek 2003). The post holder works alongside more senior experienced therapist/s to consolidate and develop their skills, and while able to work alone as an autonomous professional, they are supported through regular contact and supervision from the senior therapist/s. They may contribute to the occupational therapy plans for people with complex needs, but are not the responsible therapist in assessing and providing occupational therapy plans for people with very complex occupational needs.

After a period of preceptorship, and following approved training, the band 5 occupational therapist provides fieldwork placements for occupational therapy undergraduates. As confidence and experience grows, the therapist becomes increasingly responsible for the supervision of support staff, and for the delegation of occupational therapy tasks.

The post holder will as an integral part of the team working core hours Monday to Friday. There will be an occasional need to be flexible to meet individual service user need e.g. working early evenings.
