Job summary

We are looking for an experienced, innovative and enthusiastic clinical psychologist, with previous experience of working with adults with learning disabilities. There is an exciting opportunity to work within the Fylde & Wyre locality team. The team has a positive reputation of being forward-thinking and person-centred, supporting people with learning disabilities, and their families, to live enriched and fulfilling lives. The team work in partnership with local authorities, health and social care providers, to deliver robust patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

You will work within multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to core clinical functions, as well as the provision of specialised psychological interventions. You will provide psychological assessment and intervention in a variety of settings and provide consultation, training and supervision to the wider MDT on the psychological care of adults with a learning disability.

You will receive regular clinical & professional supervision from a Clinical Psychologist and there are many opportunities for clinical development and service improvement initiatives.

Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

Education / Qualification

Essential

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
  • HCPC registered as a Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical).

Knowledge

Essential

  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to the patient group.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
