Due to a promotion within our perinatal service for the current post-holder, we now have a great opportunity for a Senior Clinical Psychologist in our fantastic Mother and Baby Unit.

Ribblemere is a purpose built, eight bedded unit, which opened in October 2018. It offers inpatient care for women (and their babies), presenting with severe and complex perinatal mental health difficulties. We accept nationwide referrals and liaise closely with other perinatal services. We aim to provide trauma-informed, compassionate, and comprehensive care and support. We do this by effective multidisciplinary integrated team working and ensuring effective prevention by:

  • Intervening from 32 weeks pregnancy and up to 1 year postnatal
  • Understanding the mental health needs of mothers and babies and providing effective, evidence-based interventions
  • Understanding the mental health needs of partners and signposting them to appropriate support as required

The post is based on-site at Chorley Hospital where the post holder would spend the majority of their time. The post may require some outreach and follow up support to women as appropriate and this entails potential travel across the whole of the LSCFT footprint.

Main duties of the job

The service works intensively and rapidly, conscious of the mother and infant's need for timely recovery from the effects of significant mental health difficulties. The average length of stay is 6-8 weeks but we work with each individual's needs in mind. An equal focus on the parent-infant relationship and supporting the development of this is paramount.

The post holder will hold the following responsibilities:

  • To provide confident and experienced clinical psychological input into the MBU, including the provision of specialist psychological assessment and therapy. There may also be ongoing outreach/follow up work for some service users following their discharge from the MBU, as clinically indicated.
  • To offer a range of group and/or individual assessment interventions drawn from relevant frames of reference, demonstrating sophisticated clinical reasoning skills relating to perinatal mental health.
  • To offer consultation, advice, and supervision on patient's psychological care and the parent-infant relationship to psychologist and non-psychologist colleagues and to other professionals, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the services policies and procedures.
  • To work as part of the MDT to ensure the mother's assessment determines the right care model and pathway for each woman and her baby.
  • To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area where the post holder works.

Satisfactory completion of a British Psychological Society accredited Doctoral Level postgraduate professional training course in clinical psychology. Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with HCPC.
