Job summary
We are excited to offer a 1 year fixed-term vacancy within the Furness Community Mental Health teams for an Assistant Psychologist. The post will be based across Barrow-in-Furness, and the post holder will be an integral and valued team member with the support of Clinical Psychologists and other multidisciplinary colleagues, including Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Psychiatrists and support workers. You will receive weekly clinical supervision from a Clinical Psychologist.
An interest in working with individuals with a range of presentations across the lifespan will be essential, and this post aims to foster skills in working within a multidisciplinary framework. The post will also sit as part of a team of psychological practitioners working within The Bay area, and the successful applicant will be welcomed as part of a service which will encourage the development of specific interests and will value further career development. Locality redesign means that there may be opportunities for the post holder to develop innovative connections with the wider community.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will gain experience in developing psychological formulations, co-running training, delivering 1:1 and group interventions, and engaging in indirect work within the MDT, with family members, carers and external agencies.
The CMHTs provide services to people with complex mental health needs. Psychological therapies and psychologically informed care is valued within the teams and network and the team have a belief that psychological care is everybody's business. The service is also developing a phased model of care, through which we are aiming to offer interventions attuned to service users' readiness to use psychological approaches. Changes to the nature of Adult Mental Health Services are being made in line with the NHS Long Term plan, resulting in more CMHT investment and opportunity.
