Job summary
Are you passionate about stroke rehabilitation and helping patients to achieve their potential and improve their quality of life? If so, we are looking to appoint a motivated, compassionate and forward thinking individual to join our multidisciplinary community stroke team.
This is an exciting time to be joining the team as we transition towards delivery of a Pennine Lancashire Stroke model in collaboration with East Lancashire Teaching Hospital. The successful applicant will be expected to be flexible to meet the needs of this developing service delivery model.
This post will be a fixed term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship and will transition to a permanent band 4 post upon completion.
The role will allow you to utilise and develop your strong communication, clinical and organisational skills whilst working closely alongside the multidisciplinary team.
You will need the ability to travel within the Blackburn and Darwen area of Lancashire on a daily basis in order to deliver therapy programmes within patient's homes, care homes and the community setting.
A commitment to working within a multidisciplinary environment with close liaison and collaboration with other professionals and carers will be vital. You will be offered supervision and support by senior therapists and will have the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of specialities.
Main duties of the job

This is a developmental role.
The trainee will work towards progression into the post of Assistant Practitioner in Stroke therapy through successful completion of the 2 year foundation degree programme .
They will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of a trained clinical support worker aligned to Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Psychology working with stroke patients in a community setting.

They will, on qualification have a required level of knowledge and skill beyond that of the traditional healthcare assistant or support worker. Their role is designed to work across patient pathways and professional boundaries offering additional flexibility in the delivery of new care models.
Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.
The Trust also provides a range of physical health and well-being services in the community alongside a range of partners in the Lancashire and South Cumbria area.
