Job summary

We are looking to expand our Children's Complex Needs Nursing Team and recruit a highly skilled, forward thinking and enthusiastic children's nurse based at St Peters HC, Burnley and Ashton HC, Preston. The Complex Packages of Care (CPOC) is a service that delivers direct care and support to children with very complex physical health needs and their families in their home and in other environments such as schools.

Our service provides support to families over a 24 hour period, 7 days per week. You need to have a flexible approach as this can include traveling across the Lancashire footprint and also to the Specialist Centres such as Alder Hey and Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. As part of the role you will be required work some unsociable hours including night shifts and weekends.

This role involves working across our nurse packages, with the opportunity to use and build upon your clinical skills in, administration of intravenous infusions via a central lines, administration of medication, wound care assessment and management including application of specialist dressings, respiratory assessments and interventions including basic life support, oxygen administration, bowel and bladder management, including supporting with self-catheterisation and vesiscostomy management, Blood sugar monitoring and control, enteral feeding support and also working with child with VP Shunt in-situ.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Complex Packages of Care (CPOC) team providing a nursing service for children referred for assessment and intervention.

The post holder will be responsible for assessment of need, intervention and treatment provision as indicated for a wide variety of conditions (this may include chronic, complex, disabling life limiting and challenging illnesses) within the area of nursing.

The post holder will be responsible for the comprehensive assessment of children and young people with diverse presentations, using investigative and analytical skills, to formulate a hypotheses in order to determine appropriate interventions and goals.

To establish individualized management and treatment plans, using clinical

reasoning and utilizing a range of evidence based treatment skills and options to formulate interventions and programmes of care.

To participate in the delivery of training programmes and information packages for colleagues in health, education voluntary sector organizations, and parents / carers.
