An opportunity has arisen with the service, for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist Specialist post to work within the Adult Specialist Community Learning Disability Team covering the Morecambe Bay area and therefore must be able to travel independently of public transport. We are looking for a highly motivated and a conscientious team player who has excellent communication and clinical skills, looking to build experience in working with community teams.

The Learning Disability Service strives to provide forward thinking high quality services, working in partnership with other agencies. In addition to working with adults with learning disabilities and autism, we work closely with their families, and we have a strong commitment to health promotion through service development and training initiatives. We are committed to helping our staff develop and you will be part of an enthusiastic and experienced team.

It is expected you will be able to use IT clinical record systems.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing a high standard of specialist Occupational Therapy input into the Adult Community Learning Disability Team, working as a community setting as an autonomous practitioner.

The post holder will be responsible for gathering information, assessing, providing interventions and evaluating effectiveness with both individuals and in group settings, drawing from relevant evidence bases, frames of reference and models for practice, demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning skills relating to the effects of learning disability on occupational performance. Their interventions will focus on enabling people to engage in their chosen occupations whilst helping to break down barriers to participation.

The post holder represents a senior clinical resource with specific knowledge of learning disabilities with whom other team members can consult with to help occupational formulation. They will work with the refereed person, their family members, carers/support teams and any other professionals involved in the persons support.

This senior position requires achieving an appropriate balance between the provision of specialist occupational therapy and taking on shared roles that contribute to the efficient functioning of the team.
