First Step South Cumbria have two opportunities for a Registered Nurse Mental Health, Social Worker, OT, psychologist, psychotherapist, or counsellor who are registered with their relevant regulatory body to come and join us as a Screening & Assessment Practitioner.

First Step South Cumbria is the IAPT service that serves South Cumbria. First Step is an exciting and dynamic service within which to work and is popular with both South Cumbrian GPs and also the wider South Cumbrian community.

First Step is dedicated to the delivery of evidence-based therapies for individuals with common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety disorders in line with best practice and clinical guidelines. The service is comprised of approximately fifty clinicians including PWPs, High Intensity Practitioners, Counsellors, Senior Psychotherapists, Employment Advisors, an administrative hub and Team Leaders. The team work together to try and ensure that we provide effective and compassionate interventions as rapidly as possible to our patients.

Main duties of the job

We believe strongly in the ethos behind the IAPT programme. We have a high recovery rate and this is due to the quality of staff, a strong supervision structure and a high quality on-going training programme for each stream. For example, as part of our ongoing internal training programme, staff have received additional training days from: Dr Stephen Barton, Dr Nick Grey, Professor Mark Freeston, Professor Robert Elliott, Professor Mick Cooper, Professor Tracey Wade, Dr Kevin Meares, Peter Armstrong, Professor Dave Dagnan, Dr Martina Mueller, Dr Mary Welford, Dr Freda McManus, Dr Stirling Moorey, Dr Robert Dudley, Professor Karina Lovell, Maria Chellingsworth, Professor Rory O'Connor, Dr Derek Milne, Dr Beverly Haarhoff and Dr Manda Holmshaw, Professor Glenn Waller.
