Are you a Speech and language Therapist looking for an opportunity to develop/ widen your experience and develop a Specialism working with Adults who have Learning Disabilities?
The Lancashire and South Cumbria Learning Disability Services are undergoing an exciting transformation facilitated by significant investment.
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic speech and language therapist to develop their skills in working with people with learning disabilities. While working alongside a Highly Specialist Speech and language Therapist and being part of a Multidisciplinary Community Learning Disability Health Team composed of nurses, psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Psychiatrists, you will carry out Speech and Language Therapy assessments and deliver communication and dysphagia interventions personalized to meet the needs of adults who are referred to the team.
Main duties of the job
You will join a network of Speech and Language Therapists who work in Learning Disability across LSCFT and who will support you to develop your clinical skills in areas such as dysphagia, AAC, Total Communication and high level language difficulties. They meet on a monthly basis for group clinical supervision, to share good practice and initiate service improvements. There are also opportunities to develop your leadership skills and take an active role in service development including training, outcome measures and research. The Trust is actively exploring links with HEIs and supporting Allied Health Professionals to take on Advanced Clinical practitioner roles.
As this is a trainee post, appointment to this post will initially be at Band 5 with the expectation that the post holder will develop the competencies to take up the band 6 role within 24-36 months. Newly qualified SLTs will initially be supported to develop their NQP competencies in line with RCSLT guidelines before developing their competencies to take a band 6 role. Experienced applicants may be offered the post at Band 6.
