Job summary

To provide dental nurse support when required by the Service and to assist in the full range of dental care provided to patients of Community Dental Services.To support the dental team in the provision of dental care in various settings across Liverpool, Knowsley and Sefton, i.e. dental departments within health centres and acute hospitals. This post will be primarily covering Sefton including Bootle, Maghull and Southport clinics.

This will include a wide range of treatments for a broad patient base which includes children and adults with additional needs and complex medical conditions.

The post is clinic based. The post holder may be asked to undertake duties in neighbouring clinics when required for holiday or sickness relief or temporary redeployment.

The post holder will be expected to undertake post qualifications in Inhalation sedation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have responsibility for participating as a key member of the dental team and other agencies to promote and maintain the dental health and wellbeing of our patients.

Contribute to the development of policies and services to reflect the needs of the local population.

Report and record incidents as per Trust protocols and procedures.

Deliver pre- and post-operative instructions for various treatments as required by the clinician.

Implement accurate paper and electronic record keeping processes as per Trust policies and procedures.

Work in partnership with other professionals to ensure patients are treated in the appropriate environment.

Supporting our clinicians with all treatments across clinics and hospital sites. Recording of treatment, including charting from the clinicians instructions and other administrative tasks in line with the role.

Preparation of surgery for all dental procedures.Decontamination processes in line with HTM01-05.Medical emergency support if and when required in event of a medical emergency.Triage of patients attending for emergency treatment as and when required.Management of children and adults attending the clinics.

Providing the patient with pre and post-operative instructions prior to safely discharging the patient following various types of dental procedures including Inhalation and Intravenous sedation and General Anaesthetic.Care and minor maintenance of equipment utilised within the dental environment. Contacting relevant contractors in event of breakdown.

Liaising with various disciplines when required to ensure the best outcome for our patients.

Maintaining stock levels and ordering when required.When necessary, the post holder will be expected to provide cover for colleagues across various locations.

Qualifications

Essential

  • National qualification for dental nurses or equivalent and on GDC register

Desirable

  • NEBDN post certificate qualification e.g. radiography/inhalation sedation
