Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic outgoing individual to join our community Phlebotomy team. This is a permanent full time positions.

The Phlebotomy service covers a number of sites within the Knowsley borough as well as providing domiciliary visits for housebound patients. The role involves taking patient blood samples within a community setting or in the patient's own home and ensuring the samples are labelled and prepared for transportation to the laboratory. It requires excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly to meet the service need on a rota basis covering 7am to 4pm.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work under supervision as part of the multi-disciplinary team and will assist and support the clinical team(s). This may include working within the patient's home environment and other clinical settings within community.

Ensure the delivery of the quality strategy within the designated area incorporating establishment of systems and processes.

Job responsibilities

Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.

Undertake a range of patient interventions within the scope of NVQ level 2 skills and competencies for patients as delegated by team leader manager or other qualified clinical staff.

Plan and organise own work schedule once delegated from team leader.

Undertake basic patient observations.

Work within existing clinical guidelines, policies and infection control procedures.

Offer advice and support to patients and families in a wide range of situations.

Develop communication skills to enable the delivery of factual and sensitive information within confidentiality guidelines to patients, ensuring all information is appropriately documented and reported back to the team leader.

Demonstrate own role to new starters and students.

Ensure safe moving and handling techniques in the delivery of patient care, this can include the safe use of equipment.

Develop communication skills to enable the reporting of information to the multidisciplinary team and other agencies as appropriate.

Undertake ordering and receipt of stores.

Deliver patient care within essence of care standards and Trust guidelines and policies

Document care delivered within hand-written or electronic patient records.
