Job summary

A vital role in the delivery of a NIHR funded project, Gothic2: A multi-centre randomised placebo-controlled trial of glycopyrrolate & hyoscine hydrobromide for the treatment of clozapine-induced hypersalivation.

In this exciting role, you will travel to MH clinics throughout Merseyside & Lancs to discuss the GOTHIC2 trial with community MH service users & recruit patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. You will collect data for the project in the clinic/ participant homes, involving the CANTAB battery, PANSS & a range of other measures. Full training will be provided. Maintaining good working relationships with service users, carers, clinic staff & other stakeholders will be key to the success of the project. The successful candidate should be organised, capable of independent work, with strong interpersonal skills & a good awareness of mental health difficulties. Post is based at Ashworth Hospital.

You will work collaboratively & be supported by the study Chief Investigator & GOTHIC2 study team, research & delivery staff & clinical services to assist with the successful delivery of the study & achievement of local & national targets in relation to research performance.

The successful applicant will be accountable for ensuring that the research undertaken safeguards the wellbeing of the patients & is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research. You will demonstrate an attitude, which respects & values service users' & their carers.

Main duties of the job

1. To assist in the set-up & facilitation of the research project.2. To maintain & manage an external database.3. To approach potential research participants.4. To carry out any relevant psychometric test materials and structured/ semi-structured interviews.5. Where indicated, to follow-up research participants at agreed intervals.6. To be aware of the psychological/ emotional needs of research participants, responding and reporting appropriately.7. To ensure that research procedures (including consent processes and follow up) are carried out according to the approved protocol and the UK policy framework for health and social care research.8. To conduct reviews of electronic patient clinical notes, extracting and coding data for research purposes.9. To score relevant tests make data anonymous and enter data into the study database.10. To ensure safe storage of paper data.11. To help with the production of interim progress reports.12. To help to notify the ethics committee and the local research governance committee of any ongoing changes to the project.13. To assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publications.14. To assist in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations.15. To travel independently in order to engage the participation of others.
