Job summary
Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust Musculoskeletal Service is looking for a highly motivated Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with experience in the NHS to join the team in Knowsley.
The musculoskeletal physiotherapy service provides a comprehensive range of services to patients with musculoskeletal conditions, accepting both self referrals and referrals from GP's.
The post holder will be responsible for providing treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, chronic pain, arthritic conditions and other complex multi-pathologies.
The post holder will be required to work across satellite clinics in the Knowsley area.
The MSK service has a well-structured programme of mentoring, supervision and CPD; the department is research-active and has close links with Higher Education Institutes. Active involvement in training and development, including supervision of students and delivery of staff training is a key requirement.
To be successful in applying for this role you will need:
- Current relevant professional registration (HCPC registration)
- Minimum 2 years post qualification experience
- Experience of working in the NHS as a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist
- Enhanced DBS
- Experience in a musculoskeletal outpatients department

Main duties of the job
To provide high quality Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy services to patients
To use advanced clinical reasoning skills and specialist manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis
To undertake a comprehensive assessment and re-assessment of patients, including those with diverse or complex presentation
To formulate and deliver individualised and specialist Physiotherapy management programme based on advanced knowledge of appropriate treatment options and evidence based practice e.g. manual techniques, patient education, exercise classes and other suitable skills
To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including management of patients in your care
To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with legal requirements, trust guidelines and CSP standards of practice

Clinical:
To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multi pathologies; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition.
Undertake video and telephone assessments as well as face to face sessions.
Formulate and deliver an individual therapy treatment programme using assessment, reasoning skills and treatment skills based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options. Formulate accurate diagnosis prognoses and recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive discharge plans.
To take delegated responsibility from the Band 7 therapist for managing patients with particular conditions and be responsible for providing specialist therapy assessment and treatment plans for patients with these conditions.
Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required.
Work as a lone practitioner with telephone support from a senior therapist if required.
To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, co-ordination, palpatory and other senses for assessment and manual treatment of patients
To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of their condition
To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment
To communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing, therapy staff and other health and social care and education professionals to ensure delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary service. This will include case conferences, ward rounds and discharged planning and other forms of verbal/written communication as necessary including report writing, referrals to other agencies
To communicate highly sensitive information effectively with all patient groups/carers were there maybe difficulties in accepting or understanding information
To maintain tact and diplomacy and use highly developed communication skill when working in situations which may become hostile/antagonistic
To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up to date documentation in line with legal and departmental requirements, and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines in the form of reports and letters
To undertake as directed the collection of appropriate data and statistics for the use of the department
To adhere to the HCPC code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and facilitate compliance of the occupational therapy/physiotherapy staff with local and national standards of practice
Work within Trust clinical guidelines and CSP guidelines and to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own and others quality practice as appropriate
Managerial:
To be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patient under your management, and support more junior staff to do likewise
