We are looking for qualified psychological practitioner with the experience, skills and enthusiasm to provide quality services to people accessing Mersey Care NHS Trust.

Successful applicants would be working within the inpatient team to support people with a range of psychological issues. The applicant will provide specialist psychological assessment, therapy and interventions to service users and carers, making use of a range of models where appropriate. Successful applicants would also offer specialist advice, leadership and consultation to non-psychologist colleagues and support the development of psychological skills across the whole workforce through specialist training, supervision, mentorship and reflective practice. Psychological input is highly valued by staff within the service. We would also expect them to have experience of working with other services, championing psychological interventions and developing working partnerships.

We would expect the applicant to be a team player as they will be part of a supportive MDT delivering a multi tiered psychosocial interventions. We are particularly keen to recruit individuals with a strong background in person-centred and Human-Rights based approaches to healthcare, with a positive attitude and a strong understanding and commitment to integrated team working. Excellent communication and people skills are essential, as is a proven passion for improving the lives clients and their families.

The post holder may be expected to audit and evaluate a range of outcomes in terms of the benefit for Service Users, staff and the wider service. An active interest in research, publication and supporting others to develop their evaluation skills will be an advantage.

Posts are suitable for newly qualified and current clinicians. Relevant training, support and experience will be provided to ensure successful applicants are eligible to apply for preceptorship to an 8a clinical psychology post if professional qualifications allow and after demonstrating significant demonstrable post qualifying experience. Anybody applying who already has the relevant training and experience will be able to start at band 8a.

  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice

  • Expertise in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
  • Well developed and effective communication skills, oral and written, to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to client group and mental health
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical psychology.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
  • Ability to identify provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours
