Job summary

Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 specialist Occupational Therapist based at the Low Secure Units (LSU) at Hollins Park Hospital in Warrington.

Chesterton ward is a 16 bedded female LSU and Marlowe Ward is a 15 bedded male LSU unit which support adults with mental illness and who require specialist forensic support.

Occupational Therapy is a valued profession and is an integral part of an established and highly skilled multidisciplinary team, enabling people to achieve successful and safe step/down/community discharge.

This post provides the therapist to work in person-centred collaboration with service user's to promote a meaningful, productive and safe everyday through the implementation of the Occupational Therapy process, underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation.

Main duties of the job

You will receive a structured induction, active support, direction and supervision from senior Occupational Therapy staff and have access to robust CPD opportunities and further training as part of the Merseycare value- provision of perfect care.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Current Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration
  • Post registration training in a therapeutic / intervention approach (e.g. Applied Behavioural Analysis and Intervention, CBT, SI, AMPS)
  • Portfolio of CPD

Desirable

  • Forensic Risk Assessment (RSVP, HCR, START)
  • Good computing skills (ECDL or Similar)
  • Additional training in specific Occupational Therapy and sensory assessments
  • Accredited Practice Placement Educator (e.g. APPLE)

Knowledge

Essential

  • At least two years experience of working as an occupational therapist with people with learning disabilities and/or mental health.
  • Experience of working with people with learning disabilities who offend
  • Experience of managing own complex caseload
  • Experience of using Occupational Therapy assessment tools and completing reports
  • Experience of communicating and liasiing with people including internal and external agencies on complex matters, issues and ideas and/or in complex situations
  • Experience of working with individuals who have complex needs
  • Experience in the use of forensic risk assessment and management
  • A good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, DOLs, Safeguarding and the legal frameworks
