Job summary

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a Clinical Lead to join an innovative, clinically and forensically skilled, centralised Offender Health team offering highly specialist risk formulation and management advice, guidance, training and expertise to teams and clinicians working across all divisions in the trust.

The role of the Clinical Lead involves extensive liaison between external agencies central to MAPPA i.e. the Police and Probation which supports the governance arrangements set out by the trust regarding MAPPA. The Clinical Lead will ensure that the quality of the MAPPA and victim liaison operations is of a high standard through regular auditing and benchmarking.

The successful applicant will undergo an extensive training programme on the formulation of risk specifically with regards to sexual and violent offenders and the management of their risk towards others.

This role is offered to Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers and AHPs. The ability to work autonomously and lead on the risk continuum is essential. Relevant experience in forensic services would be desirable but not essential.

Main duties of the job

1, To interface effectively between the Criminal Justice System, Health, Social Services, 3rd sector and voluntary organisations.2. To attend MAPPA review meetings as a core panel member fulfilling the trust's duty to co-operate function.3. To assess and contribute as appropriate to the management of risk of mentally disordered offenders in the criminal justice system & health.4. To conduct psychological formulations to support the management of risk of mentally disordered offenders in the criminal justice system and health or those who present as a risk to others.5. To offer specialist advice, guidance and consultation on the management of risk of mentally disordered individuals who are presenting as a significant risk to others.6. To support the risk management framework within Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust through involvement with H-RAMM, MAPPA & community risk management processes (CPA).7. To provide management and clinical supervision to junior staff in the team on a regular basis in line with policy and need.8. To collate data and activity reporting on a regular basis for MAPPA and Victims.9. To support the trust victim's agenda - identification and monitoring of victims.10. To provide training and education on the management of risk to others and consideration towards victims.

1. To participate in the evaluation of services for offenders with mental ill health, disorder and other vulnerabilities and contribute to consequent proposals for change (i.e., Reconnect Pilot, National Diversion Programme (NDP) & Pathfinder site).2. Provide support, liaison, and advice to a range of agencies i.e., the Police, probation and those in the community that are involved with the care of the service user as necessary as well as health.3. Provide awareness training on mental health issues across a range of agencies including health and social services and CJS agencies.4. Develop and maintain effective working relationships and referral procedures with health services, police, social services, the probation service, and other agencies.5. Networking with national and local agencies, keeping up to date with changes and developments coming into the system.6. To provide verbal or written reports as requested by other departments or the Head of Operations on a variety of issues e.g., complaints, incidents or investigations.7. To maintain a high level of expertise in your area of work i.e., Policies and Procedures, clinical practice and staff management, in order to ensure delivery of high standards of practice in all areas.8. To carry out regular audits that will identify areas of good practice, based on sound research findings. Assist the Head of Operations and Operational Manager the implementation of change.9.
