Job summary

To support the Community Forensic Learning Disability Service (CFLDS) in the delivery of high-quality specialist speech and language assessments and interventions in the development of effective clinical services to meet the complex needs of people with a diagnosis of learning disabilities associated with forensic risk particularly those whose behaviour presents serious forensic risks to themselves and the public.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide in depth specialist speech and language therapy assessments and therapeutic interventions for people who have a diagnosis of learning disabilities associated with forensic risk
  • Responsibility for the management and prioritisation including delegation of speech and language caseload to other speech and language therapists in the team
  • Provide clinical and managerial supervision to other speech and language therapists including students and support workers in the team
  • Provide clinical leadership and training to the wider staff team with regards to speech, language and communication.
  • Provide strategic leadership to the Community Forensic Learning Disability Service (CFLDS) in the development of the service.
  • Provide advice, consultation and training to staff working with the client group across a range of agencies and settings where appropriate
  • To participate in the on-call arrangements of the CFLDS as required.
  • Develop effective outcome measures both for SLT and the wider team to build on the existing evidence base
  • To utilise theory evidence-based literature and research to support practice and to contribute to the evidence base by leading and participating research and audit
  • To be a source of advice and support to colleagues within the CFLDS and the wider health and social care community
  • Ensure Safeguarding requirements are upheld
  • Undertake duties as may be delegated by the Team Manager or the Clinical Lead

  • Relevant degree/diploma approved by the RCSLT and HPC
  • Registered with the HPC - License to practice & Member of the RCSLT
  • Relevant experience at undergraduate/post graduate level or completion of specialist short courses up to Master's level or equivalent
  • In depth experience and independent management of complex patients within specialist area relevant to the post
  • Minimum 4 years highly specialist experience post qualification in relevant clinical area

Desirable

  • Post graduate certificate in speciality
  • Experience of acting in leadership & management capacity
  • Experience of developing protocols/processes
