Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work within our developing service in the Secure learning disability division. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist who can support the implementation of the SALT service into a purpose built Low Secure Inpatient setting at Maghull Health Park. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in service development, patient voice and experience.
Although the post is advertised as a Band 6, we would welcome Band 5 applicants. We understand that you may not be able to demonstrate all the listed criteria but should you be successful, you would be fully supported to reach your clinical competencies to fulfill the role requirements.
The division is led by a Principal Speech and Language Therapist support and supervision provided from a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist also working onsite. The secure service also includes a wider network of Speech and Language Therapists and assistants who meet regularly to discuss clinical cases and work collaboratively on service improvement.
The post will be based at Maghull Health Park however the the post holder may be expected to link in and support the transition of the Low Secure unit and Individual packages of Care based in Whalley until this site is retracted. Mileage will be paid.

Main duties of the job
As the Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will be responsible for managing a clinical caseload involving the assessment and management of dysphagia and communication difficulties with adults with learning disabilities, additional mental health needs and behaviour that challenges, requiring individual packages of care.
You will provide support to the wider MDT, represent Speech and Language Therapy in projects or meetings within the service, and provide relevant training.
You will offer interventions to support risk management, positive behaviour support plans and communication. You will work collaboratively with professional colleagues and provider services to deliver person-centred care. You will provide leadership and guidance on communication and dysphagia within the MDT, and to mainstream and provider services.
As the service is new - supporting the development of the SALT provision within the wider AHP offer is an exciting and unique opportunity.

Essential
- Completion of a recognised training course awarding a relevant degree (e.g. RCSLT and HPC).
- Evidence of relevant post graduate experience and training.
- Registered with HPC
- Member of RCSLT
Desirable
- Post graduate certificate in speciality
Knowledge
Essential
- Minimum of 18 months post qualification experience treating a variety of patients relevant to the post
- Knowledge of a range of communication and feeding difficulties and their management relevant to the post.
- Knowledge of a range of Alternative and Augmentative systems of communication.
- Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the people who use the service.
- Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the people who use the service.
- Awareness of principles of clinical governance / audit
