Job summary
We are looking for a fixed term locum Specialty Doctor for 6 months to join the Liverpool Perinatal Mental Health Team.
We work with women and families with an MDT approach including medical, nursing, psychological, OT, family support worker input. We work across Liverpool and have an office based in Liverpool Women's hospital. We are looking for a short term appointment to help to meet current demand
Main duties of the job
Direct involvement with the assessment diagnosis and management of pregnant and post-natal women referred with complex difficulties or prominent risk issues.
ensure that all service users newly accepted into the service have a comprehensive review, with the Consultant providing supervision, consultation and advice in relation to assessment and diagnosis to non-medical practitioners.
Support colleagues in other specialist mental health services and within primary care - particularly GPs, midwives, health visitors, IAPT and social care services -to facilitate all women receiving evidenced based, good quality mental health care during the perinatal period.
Contribute to the education and training of staff from a variety of disciplines that come into contact with women during the perinatal period

Job responsibilities
They will be directly involved with the assessment diagnosis and management of pregnant and post-natal women referred with complex difficulties or prominent risk issues. They will support management to pregnant or post-natal women open to other mental health teams within Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust
They will ensure that all service users newly accepted into the service have a comprehensive review, with the Consultant providing supervision, consultation and advice in relation to assessment and diagnosis to non-medical practitioners.
Utilise a flexible approach to delivery of clinical care so that it best meets
Support colleagues in other specialist mental health services and within primary care particularly GPs, midwives, health visitors, IAPT and social care services -to facilitate all women receiving evidenced based, good quality mental health care during the perinatal period.
Contribute to the education and training of staff from a variety of disciplines that come into contact with women during the perinatal period.
Contribute to the development of the service and be actively involved in the critical evaluation of its effectiveness over time.
Be readily available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely.
Ensure that management plans are clearly displayed in the medical records and undertake administrative duties associated with the care of the patient.
Foster relationships between staff within each organisation, and also with the local Clinical Commissioning Groups.
To act as team responsible clinician for the purposes of the Mental Health Act 1983 and carry out duties in accordance to the code of practice.
The post holder will have the opportunity to become involved in medical student teaching as part of their clinical placements. Other opportunities to teach as part of professional development can be discussed and agreed with the supervising consultant.
The post holder will regularly attend the Tuesday morning postgraduate programme as part of their weekly SPA sessions. This is well attended by Consultants and junior medical staff and is a lively meeting. It includes case conferences and journal presentations. One meeting per month is an audit programme with a prize twice a year for the best audit. Occasionally it includes mandatory training slots and guest speakers.
