Specialist Physiotherapist Orthopaedic Rotation

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our Specialist Orthopaedic Rotation within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

The post offers rotational experience across three specialist services:

Specialist Hip Fracture Unit, Wythenshawe Hospital

ELM Unit - post-acute femoral and fragility fracture rehabilitation

Trafford Elective Surgery Hub (TESH) at Trafford General Hospital

Each rotation lasts 9 months, providing broad experience across acute, post-acute and elective orthopaedic pathways. You will work within well-established multidisciplinary teams delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and supporting timely and safe discharge.

This role is ideal for a Physiotherapist with a strong interest in orthopaedics and rehabilitation who is keen to develop specialist skills, contribute to service improvement, and progress within a supportive and forward-thinking therapy service.

Main duties of the job

Assess, treat and rehabilitate patients across acute hip fracture, post-acute rehabilitation and elective orthopaedic settings

Manage complex cases using advanced assessment, clinical reasoning and discharge planning skills

Work effectively in a fast-paced acute environment, including post-operative review to facilitate safe and timely discharge

Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives within each clinical area

Provide supervision and support to junior staff and rehabilitation assistants

Contribute to pre-registration education and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development

Participate in the weekend working rota and on-call respiratory rota

During the TESH rotation, contribute to the evening twilight service

Essential

  • Recognised BSC Honours degree in physiotherapy or equivalent
  • State registration via Health and Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate training including attendance at relevant specialist courses

Desirable

  • Involvement in special interest group
  • Registered member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Completion of relevant neuro specific courses

Experience / Knowledge

Essential

  • Previous postgraduate clinical experience as a junior in a broad rotational post
  • Specialist knowledge of physiotherapy assessment and treatment technique
  • Working knowledge of local and national policies and procedures e.g. Manual Handling, Chartered Society of Physiotherapists/Health and Care Professions Council Code of Conduct/Ethics, Health and Safety, Infection Control, CPR, Equality and Diversity
  • Evidence of Continual Professional Development
  • Experience of and commitment to interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary team working
