Senior Locally Employed Doctor in Paediatric Cardiology

Job summary

We are delighted to offer an opportunity for an ambitious and motivated person to join our team at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (RMCH) is the largest and busiest children's hospital in the UK with 371 paediatric beds. A further 60 neonatal cots also operate, within the same building, in the tertiary neonatal unit of Saint Mary's Hospital. This enables the staff of our two hospitals to deliver completely joined up services for families, from prenatal care through birth and beyond.

Important co-located services include Saint Mary's Hospital which houses specialist maternity services with large Foetal Medicine Unit providing wide range of antenatal services including foetal cardiology. On the site there is one of the largest Level 3 NICU serving the Northwest region.

The Manchester Heart Centre at the Manchester Royal Infirmary is also co-located on the site and provides outpatient care for Adult Congenital Heart Disease patients. Close collaboration ensures seamless transition for paediatric patients with cardiac pathology into adult services.

Paediatric Cardiology at RMCH is a Level 2 Specialist Children's Cardiology Centre and has successfully passed NHS England Peer Review in 2019. The centre is part of the Northwest, North Wales and The Isle of Man Congenital Heart Network the Surgical and Interventional services based at Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Liverpool and work closely with all the hospitals within the Network.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work closely with all members of the cardiology team and within the Network.

The post-holder will be performing ward rounds under consultant supervision, will attend outpatient clinics, organize and supervise exercise testing and accept and deal with referrals within the hospital and outside of Greater Manchester Area.

The post is full time daytime based at the paediatric Cardiology Department.

The post will provide full training in Paediatric Echocardiography and clinical skills. There will be opportunities to attend MDTs within the Northwest Congenital Cardiology Network, to increase experience in Foetal Cardiology, Adult Congenital Heart Disease and attend specialist clinics such as pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, inherited cardiac conditions and arrhythmia.

There will be opportunities to work on joint projects with the Genetic, Metabolic, Neonatal and Rheumatology Teams.

Candidates must have full registration with the GMC with license to practice.Essential is at least 24 months experience in General Paediatrics and Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health is an advantage. Previous experience in Paediatric Cardiology is also an advantage. The post is very suitable for someone intending to take Paediatric Cardiology as special interest.
