Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN) in Health visiting (Manchester).

We are offering registered nurses or midwives the opportunity to undertake an exciting 13-month apprenticeship to become Health Visitors. This programme of study and clinical practice in Health Visiting which will lead to a registered Specialist Community Public Health Nursing qualification with the NMC and is supported academically by Manchester Metropolitan University. This course gives you the opportunity to develop your career in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing with a specialist focus on Health Visiting.

Main duties of the job

PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE CURRENT NMC REGISTRATION AT THE TIME OF COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION FORM.

As a Health Visitor in Manchester, you can make a significant difference to children, families and communities. Our highly committed teams play a crucial role in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) and the National Service Framework for Children, Young People and Maternity Services (DH2004) promoting child health and development to give children the best start in life. Our teams work to safeguard children, preventing social exclusion and deprivation and tackling public health issues.

Every day working as a Health Visitor is different, running Healthy Child Drop-in Clinics, visiting families in their homes, managing support groups for parents and working closely with partnership agencies and professionals. You will need to travel independently and driving licence is essential.

Starting in September 2024 you will be given a fixed term apprenticeship contract with MLCO/MFT to undertake the 13 month full time SCPHN Course with Manchester Metropolitan University. The course consists of 50% academic work and 50% practice in accordance with the university and MLCO guidelines. After qualifying if you secure a role with the trust we will offer a further year preceptorship period to consolidate your skills.

We expect that you will be offered opportunity to complete the V300 non-medical prescribing course when you have qualified.
