Job summary

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is seeking a Director of Improvement to lead a major improvement programme and deliver an exciting range of high-impact improvement initiatives. Championing improvement and transformation, you will set the tone for change by spurring enthusiasm for the overall improvement agenda. You will lead collaboration with cross-functional departments and take responsibility for the development, design, and implementation of the strategic improvement delivery plan.

We have recently restructured the Improvement Department and this is a compelling opportunity to lead and take forward our willing and engaged team through the next phase of their improvement journey and to support the organisation to improve health outcomes and experience for our patients/carers and staff.

Applicants will be improvement experts having gained experience at Director level, ideally in an NHS organisation similar to MFT or from a Chief Improvement type role within a complex company or system. An enthusiastic individual with an inquisitive mind, we are looking for candidates motivated, by pace, scale, and creativity who like to question the way things are done and who are able to identify innovative ways to develop systems, processes, and people to achieve effective levels of performance, effectiveness and engagement.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with our Board of Directors and six Clinical Group Chief Executives in our new organisational model, you will lead the development of an overarching Improvement Strategy to enable the Trust's considered organisational direction. Responsible for the development, application, and evaluation of evidence-based improvement methodologies, you will foster engagement from a broad range of staff to promote an ethos of continuous improvement and search for excellence.

Promote a positive change management, improvement, and transformation culture across the Trust, driving forward innovation including digital change through all levels of the organisation facilitating the implementation of clinical leadership and accountability. Bring expert insight and technological vision to drive innovation and improve clinical processes, establishing direct links between delivery of the Improvement Strategy and performance, efficiency, and productivity. Engage Executive Directors and other key contributors to help align the improvement agenda with associated strategic developmental work across the organisation.
