Job summary

The Data Quality Assurance Specialist provides engagement with operational services on area of specialism i.e. delivering data quality audits and improvement plans; advising on national guidance and definitions; operational system workflow; assurance on processes for delivery of access performance returns.

This involves monitoring the quality of the data in the Trust's IT systems to ensure compliance with NHS standards and providing feedback and guidance to staff as a consequence. The Data Quality Assurance Specialist will carry out the trusts audit programme and the Data Quality Assurance Specialist will monitor, analyse, and generate actions plans to support improvement of identified data quality issues.

The Data Quality Assurance Specialist will manage the Trusts Commissioning Data Sets (CDS) submissions, monitor, and analyse Secondary Uses Services (SUS) extracts and provide dataquality advice and guidance to Trust staff.

The Data Quality Assurance Specialist will work as part of the Data Assurance management team and will provide guidance and support to the Data Quality Assurance Team Leaders, Data Quality Assurance Officers, Data Quality Assurance Clerks, and Data Quality Clerks. Build close relationships with key Divisional staff to ensure the Trusts objectives regarding data quality are met. The Data Quality Assurance Specialist will also liaise with external agencies on Data Quality Assurance issues.

Main duties of the job

Monitor the data quality and validate NHS datasets ahead of submission to SUS. Liaise with administrative staff and communicate complex errors and issues, ensuring the submission is accurate and complete. Where applicable, process the data through the translator software to ensure it is in the correct format for submission.

Monitor the progress and quality of each file submitted and monitor the overall quality of the trust data on the SUS database. Resubmit any files which are rejected and investigate any rejected, missing or invalid records.

Review and implement dataset change notices and information changes from the Information Standards Board. Provide an interpretation of the notice to current practice and how this change will be implemented to staff in the Trust at all levels.

  • Degree or IT related equivalent or relevant experience in an IT environment
  • A relevant management qualification or equivalent specialist experience
  • Project management eg. Prince2/Agile or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of personal development
  • ECDL or equivalent experience eg Microsoft Office and/or other IT packages

Desirable

  • Degree of equivalent qualification in an IT related subject

Experience and Knowledge

  • Excellent attention to detail
