Job summary

To assist the children's integrated therapy team (physiotherapy and occupational therapy) in the management and care of their patients aged 0-19 years, including supporting with assessments, treatments and equipment management.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist the children's integrated therapy team in the management and care of their patients and the running of the service.
  • To work in clinics and special schools with the therapy team.
  • To manage and prioritise non-client activities on the advice of the physio or OT e.g. care of stock/equipment, general tidiness and organisation of department/area.
  • To use computer skills for tasks such as entering notes, ordering equipment and organising clinics.
  • To undertake the treatment and teaching of patients, as delegated by the Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist.
  • To support the physio and OT in the provision and monitoring of specialist equipment and orthotics for children / young people.
  • To monitor the Child / young person's progress and recognise when to discuss any changes with the therapist.
  • To support therapists, in clinic settings to carry out standardised assessments and record findings.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Willingness to work towards functional skills qualification and aquatic therapy training at a level applicable to the role.

Desirable

  • Evidence of achievement at GSCE pass levels or equivalent Child Care or Health & Social Care qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working with children and young people / working within a therapy setting

Desirable

  • Experience of working with children or adults with physical disabilities

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Ability to communicate with families, children and young people including those with impaired communication abilities
  • Effective organisational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of computers and their applications
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently

Desirable

  • Awareness of basic paediatric conditions e.g. Cerebral Palsy
  • Awareness of postural management equipment e.g. seating, orthoses.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and motivate patients with impaired cognitive abilities or physical senses.
  • Awareness of aquatic therapy.
