We are delighted to invite applicants for two fixed term Band 4 posts to join our team of Genomic Associates in the Clinical Genetics Service in MFT.
Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine is an integrated multidisciplinary genomic medicine service where Clinical Genetics, Willink Metabolic service, the Manchester Rare Conditions Centre and the North West Genomic Laboratory Hub are co-located on the 6th floor of the hospital. The department has a substantial portfolio in Education, Training and Research including genetic counsellor pathway leads for the MSc for the STP in genomic counselling. As a large team of clinical geneticists and genetic counsellors, the service is organised into subspecialties in Cancer, Prenatal, Cardiac, Neurogenetics, Ophthalmology, Deafness and Developmental Disorders.
These new posts will build on successful pilot posts for genomic associates and will join an existing genomic associate team. Although fixed term for two years, we are hopeful the roles will become a substantive part of our clinical genetics workforce.
Applicants will have experience in administrative roles with excellent organisation, IT and communication skills. We are looking for individuals with passion for high quality patient care, team working skills and enthusiasm to support the service to establish the genomic associate role in our clinical care for patients and families.
Main duties of the job
Main duties and responsibilities will include coordinating whole genome sequencing testing, supporting family management services through pedigree drawing and ensuring high quality and efficient clinical care pre and post clinic appointments.

Essential
- Higher National Certificate, Vocational Qualifications level 4 or 5, foundation degree, Higher National Diploma, Diploma in Higher Education, AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Technician Level or other diploma or equivalent level of knowledge in a relevant healthcare or scientific discipline.
- Proficient in use of IT systems, including for data entry and of Microsoft Office packages
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Evidence of communication and interpersonal skills
- Evidence of organisation skills
- Evidence of ability to work in a team
Desirable
- Knowledge of clinical genetics
