Job summary
The unit at NMGH has seven substantive consultants and one NHS fixed term consultant post. The unit has become part of the MFT family and aims to contribute to the vision of a wide General Surgical Team for MFT. The unit provides a full range of general surgical, complex abdominal wall hernias and complex benign UGI procedures. The unit aims at expanding on a benign biliary service for HOT Gall bladders as well as providing diagnostic and therapeutic colorectal service for North Manchester catchment area including non-high risk resections for colorectal disease. The post holder will be expected to deliver benign colorectal service including colonic resections with potential expansion of the scope of work to include cancer resection in line with Healthier together and service disaggregation agreements. There is a fully functional 24/7 on call general surgical service at North and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in a 1:8 on call rota onsite.
The unit at North is also supported by 7-day interventional radiology service. There is a weekly GI MDT meeting attended by Radiology, Gastro and surgical team members. The unit has also full access to pathology service and work is in progress to fully integrate with the MFT interdependent specialties putting into consideration the local resources and local patients' requirements.

The post carries 10 PA's plus extra PAs based on mutual agreement and service needs.
