Job summary

The Directorate of Urgent Care at Wythenshawe Hospital (part of Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) is looking for enthusiastic and well-motivated Specialty doctor to join our team.

This post provides a great opportunity to gain significant experience in a busy 56-bedded acute medical unit and our same day emergency care unit (SDEC) The successful candidates will be working alongside 12 consultants within Acute Medicine. You will also work alongside 1 other Registrar level doctor, 2 IMT3's, 4 SHO grade trainees, 1 FY1, 7 JCFs, 3 PAs and 3 ACPs. The successful candidates will be supported by multiple teams of allied health professionals.

The inpatient and acute services based at Wythenshawe Hospital encompass approximately 1000 beds. This includes the Acute Medical Unit and Acute General Medicine. Acute General Medicine comprises Gastroenterology, Diabetology and Endocrinology, Geriatric and Stroke Medicine. Chest Medicine is based in the North West Lung Centre and Cardiology is based in the Regional Cardiothoracic Unit, which also includes Cardiothoracic Surgery with Heart & Lung Transplantation. Other specialities represented are Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Gastrointestinal and ENT Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Urology, Paediatric Surgery, Rheumatology, Dermatology and Pulmonary Oncology.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include:

  • Review of ward inpatients and formulation of management plans
  • Preparation for and attendance on consultant ward rounds
  • Assessment and management of patients via SDEC
  • Liaison with a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals and with the patient's Primary Health Care team to ensure an excellent clinical journey
  • Ensure all results are acted upon appropriately
  • Involvement in Quality Improvement, and teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates
  • Support and supervision of junior colleagues
  • To undertake any other duties deemed appropriate when requested by Senior Staff
