Job summary

This post offers an exciting opportunity for an advanced clinical pharmacist with excellent leadership skills to join our pharmacy team as the Lead Pharmacist for Infectious Diseases. Based at North Manchester General Hospital, you will lead, develop and deliver a high-quality, patient focused, clinical pharmacy service for our patients across the Trust.

NMGH is home to the North West regional Infectious Diseases Unit, where we have around 1200 inpatient admissions due to infectious diseases per year. The team also provide outpatient clinic and homecare services across the Trust, delivering care to the largest cohort of people receiving treatment for HIV outside of the London/Southeast region . The Trust is rightly proud of the flagship ID service, and we seek an ambitious and driven Pharmacist to take the serviceforward.

You will manage a team of specialist and rotational pharmacists and technicians and you will form part of the Pharmacy Clinical Services senior team. You will support service transformation by working collaboratively with colleagues across MFT and by using innovative approaches, including the recently implemented, fully integrated patient record and EPMA system, HIVE.We are looking for candidates with extensive clinical experience in the field of infectious diseases who are highly organised, able to manage their time effectively and ready to take on a leadership role. Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills are essential components of the role

Main duties of the job

In this role you will:

  • Lead and manage the clinical pharmacy service provided to Infectious Diseases at NMGH and across the wider Trust, ensuring service delivery to agreed standards in line with business planning requirement and Key Performance Indicators
  • Line manage a Pharmacy team delivering the Infectious Diseases service across the Trust. Demonstrate compassionate leadership, inspiring and motivating the team.
  • Be a lead specialist pharmacist with highly specialist knowledge and skills, act as an expert resource in this practice area and a clinical pharmacist role model.
  • Promote the safe and effective use of medicines within the division, supporting the division with all matters relating to medicines management including governance and safety, appropriate use of High Cost Drugs including Blueteq processes and adherence to commissioning criteria, and delivery of Homecare services in ID.
  • To establish effective working relationships with Clinical Heads of Division, Divisional Director, Head of Nursing and other relevant divisional stakeholders.
  • To support the transformation of services using innovative approaches, and work with colleagues across MFT to harmonise practices to ensure the best patient outcomes for patients with infectious diseases
  • Form part of the Pharmacy Clinical Services Management Team, deputising for the Clinical Services Manager for NMGH when necessary.
