Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Rare Disease Consultant Clinical Scientist on the Manchester site of the North West Genomic Laboratory Hub. The post-holder will provide leadership within the NW GLH Rare Disease team to deliver a modern, high quality diagnostic service, and deputise for the NW GLH Scientific Lead for Rare Disease. The post-holder will also collaborate with the cross-site NW GLH senior leadership team to develop the future strategic direction for the hub.

This is a full-time permanent position; staff will be expected to participate in a 6-day working on call rota to cover Saturdays and some Bank Holidays. Applicants should be a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist.

Main duties of the job

This is a Consultant Clinical Scientist position within the NW GLH laboratory to facilitate the delivery of key requirements arising from the recommissioning of Genomic services and support the provision of high quality rare disease genomic testing within the hub. The post-holder will be expected to deputise for the NW GLH Scientific Lead for Rare Disease as required.

The post-holder will work closely with the NW GLH Lead Scientist for Rare Disease and NW GLH rare disease team to ensure demands of the services are met.

The post holder will act as a Consultant Clinical Scientist, offering the highest level of knowledge, skills and expertise over a range of investigations and services and provide expert clinical advice to external stakeholders, referring clinicians and laboratory staff for the provision of a high quality service to patients.

As a member of the strategic management team the post holder will contribute to the development of policies and practices within the department and also assist the Head of Service with resource management.

The post holder will facilitate translational research and new test developments in line with the NW GLH development plan.

The post holder will be expected to participate in Clinical Multidisciplinary Team meetings (MDTs) with Clinical Genetics and other medical specialties.

The post holder will be a member of the Laboratory Senior Team.
