Job summary

The Manchester Royal Eye Hospital Acute Service is one of the leading Ophthalmic Emergency Services within the United Kingdom and has a long history of leadership in this field nationally.

The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with the aim to expand the service further with innovative leadership, ideas, audit, and research projects.

It is anticipated that the successful applicant will already be a GMC registered Ophthalmologist and have passed the Part 1 FRCOphth and Refraction examination, with significant experience in Ophthalmology and a wish to complete their training through the 'Certificate confirming Eligibility for Specialist Registration' (CESR) route.

Main duties of the job

There is an expectation that the program will involve multi site working across Greater Manchester. The individual timetable will be matched by the CESR lead in conjunction with the needs of all the doctors on the rotation. However, we would expect that this post commence with corneal commitments. In doing so the timetables will vary based on the subspecialty department the doctor is attached to. With each attachment there would be an expectation of undertaking acute referrals (including inpatients on different sites)/ emergency department sessions set within the doctor's program. It would be expected that the successful candidates would participate in the general ophthalmology 1st/2nd on call rota (approximately 1:12 with prospective cover and weekend working) and will be scheduled into the regional teaching on a Wednesday afternoon as part of SPA.
