Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic dedicated registered Occupational Therapist to join our friendly and supportive team within the Community Learning Disability Service (CALDs).

The CALDS is part of the Manchester Local Care Organisation (MLCO).You will join a nurturing, experienced citywide team, working alongside Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists and Learning Disability Nurses. We are an integrated team and work closely with our social care colleagues.

We welcome applications from Occupational Therapists with experience in community working with a desire to develop a rewarding career. We will support you with specialist and bespoke training to reach your potential and excel in your chosen career path. Experience in equipment and adaptation, skill development, and supporting people to engage in meaningful occupation is also essential.

The diversity of presentations of the people we support within our service applicants must have excellent communication and listening skills to provide a service to people with complex health and sensory needs who have varying levels of verbal communication and understanding.

You will receive 1:1 clinical support, professional development and guidance from our experienced Locality Lead and the citywide Professional Lead for Occupational Therapy. Additional support is provided by the CALDS Health Service Manager. You will be responsible for the supervision of junior members of staff and students.

Main duties of the job

Make a proactive difference to people with learning disabilities in Manchester.

Work as part of a multidisciplinary health and social care CALDS toprovide a specialist occupational therapy service to adults with significantlearning disabilities.

Use specialist knowledge, skills and experience, using evidence based and person centred principles to assess and manage own caseload.

Work as part of a city wide occupational therapy service to benefit.

Contribute to the planning, delivery and evaluation of professional and service developments.

Be pro-active in the development and provision of multi-professional training to the MLDP and the independent sector and other agencies.

Undertake professional educators course and offer practice placements accordingly.

Deputise where necessary for the locality lead occupational therapist.
