Job summary

The Manchester Speech and Language Therapy Service is committed to providing a high-quality service to children and families across the city of Manchester.

This is a public heath role and forms part of Manchester city council further role out of the Kickstart project and supports the building back better initiative.

We are looking for 5 experienced, flexible and enthusiastic Language development workers to build on the work of the established Communication and Language Early Years team in Manchester.

The focus of the established team has been to embed a citywide, multi-agency communication and language pathway to provide early identification and support for children with moderate language difficulties. This has been developed as part of Manchester's drive to improve children's school readiness and life outcomes.

You will need an NVQ level 3 in childcare or another relevant equivalent. You will have knowledge and understanding of children's early language development and a wide range of experience of working with early years children and their parents is essential.

Main duties of the job

This is a very exciting new initiative to deliver an extended Communication and Language support offer to practitioners in early years PVI settings and schools foundation stage. The role would be working as part of a team of Speech and Language therapists and Language Development workers.

The role will provide an opportunity to work closely with early years practitioners in PVI settings and foundation stage classes in schools across the city to develop the role of communication champions and raise practitioners' skills in supporting children's language development.

Extensive training in supporting children with communication difficulties will be provided.

The post holder will be sensitive to the needs of Manchester diverse population.

You will be required to work independently and as part of a multi-agency team.

This is a citywide service, so car driver is essential. Travel costs will be refunded.

Manchester Speech and Language Therapy department provides opportunities for ongoing professional development.
