Job summary

Locum Consultant (x3) in Respiratory Medicine with Interest in Thoracic Oncology - 12 month fixed term opportunities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for three locum consultants to join the Lung Cancer & Thoracic surgery Directorate at Manchester University Foundation Trust (MFT), in response to the expansion of Targeted Lung Health Checks (lung screening) across Greater Manchester from 1st April 2024.

The successful applicants will join an established team of health care professionals in providing specialist respiratory services to a population in excess of 3.2 million people.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to:

  • Share with Consultant colleagues the responsibility for providing clinical services for the local population
  • Be readily available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely
  • Ensure that management plans are clearly displayed in the notes of patients
  • Be actively involved in the leadership, management and decision making within Directorate
  • Work flexibly to achieve high quality care through the team job plan covering all aspects of the service.
  • Ensure the policies for communication with General Practitioners, Trust staff and patients are followed
  • Ensure that optimal use is made of all resources allocated to the post
  • Cover Consultant colleagues during periods of leave.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • Full and specialist Respiratory Medicine registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • Holds CCT or be within 6 months of being awarded (UK applicants), or has evidence of UK equivalent (non-UK)

Desirable

  • MD, PhD or other higher degree
  • Post CCT Fellowship in thoracic malignancy

Teaching and Audit

Essential

  • Experience of Audit
  • Teaching of junior medical staff
  • Trained Clinical Supervisor

Desirable

  • Teaching of medical students
  • Experience of supervision of ST1 level trainees including workplace-based assessment and MSF
  • Trained Educational Supervisor
