Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a talented team of 37 consultant gastroenterologists and hepatologists. This post is to support the development of luminal gastroenterology services for Manchester.
Our department delivers comprehensive gastrointestinal services at Manchester Royal Infirmary, Wythenshawe Hospital and North Manchester General Hospital, along with outpatient services at Trafford and Withington Community Hospital.
You will be joining one of the largest gastroenterology and endoscopy services in England with, for example, the largest IBD biological service in the country. We provide tertiary services to 3.5 million people.
We are keen to see applications from colleagues with interests in any aspect of luminal gastroenterology, but we have identified specific needs for further development in IBD, nutrition and upper GI gastroenterology.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will assume a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and the proper functioning of his/her department. The post-holder will have full secretarial support and a dedicated office space with IT facilities.
The post-holder must take reasonable care of his/her own health and safety and any other personnel who may be affected by his/her omission. Trust policies and regulations must be followed at all times.

Qualifications - Academic / Professional
Essential
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practices and entry on the GMC specialist register for gastroenterology (or proposed CCT date within 6 months of the date of interview).
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT (details provided in JCHST specialty curriculum for Hepatology and Gastroenterology) ability to offer expert opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective in Gastroenterology and/or Hepatology
- Ability to take full independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Ability to perform upper GI diagnostic and haemostatic endoscopy with JAG certification
Desirable
- Experience of working in specialist centres (e. intestinal failure experience, advanced endoscopic practice, liver or intestinal transplantation centre activity, specialist IBD centre).
Management and Administrative Experience
