Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity for a full time Consultant in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine to join the existing team working across WTWA Hospitals.

The successful candidate will join 8 Consultant Rheumatologists who work across the WTWA. We are well supported by middle grade doctors including specialist trainees, specialty doctors (3 posts), an internal medicine trainee and a general practice trainee.

This rheumatology aspect of this post will be primarily based at Wythenshawe and Withington hospitals with the options of clinics at Altrincham or Trafford subject to the successful applicants' preferences and the needs of the service. The WTWA rheumatology service provides the full spectrum of secondary care rheumatology and some tertiary rheumatology services. We have established early inflammatory arthritis and a giant cell arteritis pathways.

We are keen to attract candidates interested in service development such as the establishment of specialist clinics and will support this in post. We are also keen to recruit a colleague who will contribute to the wider hospital including but not limited to supporting management and training (both undergraduate and postgraduate) activities. Regular multidisciplinary meetings include a team meeting for CPD, radiology meeting, biologics meeting and radiology/respiratory meeting.

Main duties of the job

This appointment will be made in accordance with the 2003 Consultant Contract Terms and Conditions. The Job Description indicates the main duties of the post, which may be reviewed in the light of experience and developments within service. Any review will be undertaken in conjunction with the post holder.

This is a full time 10PA post. Offers of less than than full time work or job shares would also be considered.

The multidisciplinary team includes an Advanced Practitioner, 10 specialist nurses, two specialist pharmacists, two specialist physiotherapy advanced practitioners, a specialist podiatrist and a specialist occupational therapist.

Currently, the rheumatology service is organized into two divisions: Central Manchester (Manchester Royal Infirmary) and Wythenshawe, Trafford, Withington and Altrincham (WTWA) divisions. The rheumatology service at North Manchester General Hospital will join the central Manchester division later this year.
