Main duties of the job

The Autonomous Practice in Emergency Care (APEC) course is delivered as a collaboration between Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) and the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). On successful completion and assessment of all 3 units the award is a Postgraduate Certificate. MFT is responsible for the curriculum, design and delivery of the course, while MMU is responsible for the processes that deliver assurance around teaching and academic quality. On a day-to-day basis the APEC course is managed by a Program Leader, who is a senior Emergency Department (ED) nurse.

The post holder will be a qualified Emergency Nurse Practitioner. They will assist the Program Leader (APEC) with the design, delivery and timetabling of the APEC knowledge curriculum. In addition, they will oversee, timetable and contribute to practical clinical training for APEC. As well as clinically supervising APEC students in the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, they will also be responsible for ensuring that the students from outside the MRI are timetabled to receive sufficient clinical experience at their sponsoring Urgent Care facility. This experience will be sufficient in duration and frequency to allow students to build a skills portfolio that successfully demonstrates their progress and achievement.
