Job summary
The principal purpose of these jobs is to take a coordinating role for the large number of medical students who are attached to clinical placements in Year 3 or 4. The day to day management of student activity and compliance with their curriculum needs regular monitoring to ensure maximum benefit. The Fellows will support the students in both clinical and bedside teaching as well as in non-clinical based education and be directed towards the educational benefit of medical students rather than service delivery. There is the possibility to negotiate some exposure to the on-call rota if desired from a training perspective
Candidates must be eligible for their own GMC registration:an active licence, ceased license or pending application with the GMC at the point of application. Candidates who do not fit this criteria will not progress through to the shortlisting stage.
Main duties of the job
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Assist with orientation and induction of medical students to the clinical environment
- Establish and make links with clinicians delivering the curriculum to maximise learning opportunities for students
- Liaise with the clinical placement supervisors to optimise learning opportunities for students on General Medical clinical placements.
- Deliver clinical examination teaching to medical students in training within clinical areas of the Trust and, as required, in the clinical skills unit
- Support the delivery of communication skills and ethics and law teaching, as necessary
- Liaise with members of the undergraduate medical education team
- Liaise with other education fellows working for the Department in the Trust and associated teaching hospitals
- Use a range of skills to adapt the delivery of information through changing the environment, methods of communication or delivery of content using persuasive, reassuring skills as required e.g. breaking bad news/special needs/dealing with anxious patients
