Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a developing inspirational leader to become the Ward Manager of the Paediatric Emergency Department at North Manchester General Hospital.

North Manchester General Hospital Paediatric ED cares for children with a wide range of injury and illnesses. The unit works closely alongside the Adult Emergency department and the Urgent Treatment Centre at North Manchester General Hospital.

Using a family centered approach, we care for children and young people from presentation to admission onto the wards or discharge home from hospital.

The role will consist of 50% clinical time running the Paediatric Emergency Department and 50% non clinical time where the management of the paediatric staff and development of the department will be completed.

The expectation of the role will be days, nights and weekends when clinical to ensure you have a full understanding of the department and weekday working for non clinical duties.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be required provide leadership to the team on the ward with particular focus on patient safety, infection control, workforce management and quality improvement. You will be responsible for managing the unit, promoting a positive patient and staff experience, and supporting education to enhance your staff member's skills and knowledge. You will have the opportunity to develop and advance your own skills with the support from the Matron and the Lead Nurse

To apply for this post, you must have substantial experience at band 6 level and be a positive role model. Paediatric Emergency Department experience is essential and applicants with demonstrable leadership skills and experience within the speciality are encouraged to apply.

The post holder has a key leadership and management role at a senior level, they will provide specialist skills and knowledge to support the organisation and delivery of care for patients within the speciality. You will be able to demonstrate behaviour's and values in keeping with MFT's values and beliefs and nursing strategy. You will have strong leadership skills with an ability to work closely and collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team.
