On 1 October 2017, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) was created from the merger of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM). On 1 April 2021 North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) also merged with MFT. These mergers were founded on a desire to deliver significant improvements in health outcomes and healthcare for the people of Manchester and surrounding areas.

We are the main provider of hospital care to approximately 750,000 people in Manchester and Trafford and the single biggest provider of specialised services in the North West of England. Main duties of the job

Why is MFT Clinical Coding the department for me?

The clinical coding department at MFT work as one collaborative team, with a strong emphasis on team work and supporting each other and working towards our shared aim of highly accurate clinical coded information.

How will I be supported to develop and flourish in my Clinical Coding career?

Following your introduction to clinical coding through the departments excellent coder induction training, your continued professional development will be supported through delivery of a rolling training programme of specialty workshops, mandatory training and examination/revision support with some of the best learning and education materials on offer and expert advice from our resident trainer who has a national profile in clinical coding having worked at regional and national levels in coding for some 25 years.

We also have a supportive programme of audit and improvement for our coding teams, helping us to achieve continual high standards, the MFT coding team recently achieved level 3DPST coding quality scores, placing it at the highest level for coding quality in the NHS.

This exciting post will provide an opportunity for you to help develop, support and drive forwardthe Group Informatics service within the Clinical Coding function.

What is Clinical Coding?

Clinical coders review the clinical documentation from each hospital episode and align the patients clinical care to a coded classification. This classification supports the categorisation/organisation of our patient population, defining the hospitals case mix which is used to determine our mortality performance, bill for more than £1bn in clinical income and measure progress against variety of performance and quality metrics.

MFT coders work closely with our clinical teams to continually build shared understanding and improve interpretation of the patients care to ensure our excellent patient care is accurately represented and defined.
