PLEASE NOTE: This is not an orthopaedic surgical job hence surgical experience is not essential. (This is a medical registrar position in the field of orthogeriatric in trauma and orthopaedics)

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Orthogeriatric Team within the Directorate of Trauma and Orthopaedics at North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH). The team is led by the Consultant Ortho- geriatrician.

The post will be based on the Trauma ward at NMGH and will allow the successful candidate to develop a special interest. We currently provide a 5 day service with no on call commitments.

As well as providing clinical expertise on the ward, you will be working along side the Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate to help and enhance our service.

You clinical duties will include:

  • Ensuring patients are seen by an Ortho-geriatrician within 72 hours of admission.
  • Seeing unwell adult patients as requested by the Orthopaedic Team.
  • Attending multidisciplinary team meetings and board rounds.
  • Working with the specialist nurse for inpatient osteoporosis to arrange investigations and treatments.
  • Supporting the consultant in bone health assessment clinic

Please note the post holder will attain the title of medical registrar expected to handle acute medical emergencies and proceed with comprehensive geriatric /medical assessment of the assessed patients.
