Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Urological Surgeon to support and develop the cystectomy and complex urology service in one of the largest trusts in the country. This is a substantive post starting initially with 10 PA, within the Department of Urology at The Manchester University Foundation Trust (MFT).

The Trust not only serves a population of almost 1 million patients, it also has a significant tertiary referral network. The successful candidate will be expected to help with tackling the backlog and meeting the ongoing health demands of the local population. They must, therefore, also possess the core skills to support the service and meet these needs. In addition there will be the opportunity to develop your own specialist interest within Urology which can be explored at the time of interview and appointment.

Paediatric Urology is supplied by the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and therefore there is no Paediatric component to this job, either through normal clinical commitments or on call. There is however the opportunity to develop links with the Children's hospital should the need arise.

Main duties of the job

The department is looking for a consultant colleague with the skills and aptitude to develop their interest in managing bladder cancer including open and robotic surgery. The service covers all MFT sites with the cystectomies being performed at Wythenshawe hospital where there is currently the provision to use a dual console DaVinci robot. In addition to being part of the cystectomy service the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to MFT's pelvic exenteration service and help support the urology involvement in the placenta accreta service. To ensure safety and quality though team working; the appointed candidate will be closely mentored with the anticipation for joint / team operating in all major cases
