Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity and seeking a Deputy Director to join the Divisional Management team reporting to, and supporting the Director of Laboratory Medicine. This role is suited to an individual who is passionate to shape and develop the strategy for pathology and be responsible for modelling new ways of operating to provide a more effective and patient focused service. The post holder will work closely with the Divisional Director and Clinical Head of Division and is expected to have a strong insight into the Pathology Modernisation agenda and be able to demonstrate, through experience, an ability of managing large scale services. The successful candidate will work with the Divisional Management Team, lead the Divisional Support Team, and ensure that Laboratory Medicine delivers on service provision, whilst driving forwards initiatives and innovation across MFT's laboratories.

The ideal candidate will have a history of operational and transformational delivery within Laboratory Medicine. They will possess excellent people skills and the credibility and ability to work with and influence at every level, be adept at working across departments and with multidisciplinary teams to drive change, delivering and shaping the agenda.

Main duties of the job

Working with the Director, the Deputy Director will be operationally accountable for ensuring the effective management and development of a range of services within the Division of Laboratory Medicine.

The Deputy Director is responsible to the Director for the operational management of all services within the Division. This involves delivery of a service meeting operational performance targets, strategic objectives and working within financial targets.

As a senior manager the post holder will be expected to make a significant contribution to the overall delivery of a quality service and adoption of best practice standards within available income.

In conjunction with the Director, the Post Holder will provide leadership and strategic direction including the interpretation and implementation of policy into operational delivery.

The Post Holder will work closely with the Director, Clinical Head of Division, Heads of Service, Clinical Leads and Laboratory Managers, to achieve the Trust's corporate objectives and will be expected to make a positive contribution to the delivery of health services across the local health community.

The post holder will work closely with the Director to ensure that the key functions and standards of the professional infrastructure are adhered to. Taking the lead on specific modernisation and workforce planning issues, which will include development and implementation of projects, working within tight timescales as and when required.

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of the Divisional Support Team.

  • Masters Degree or equivalent level of knowledge and experience of Biomedical Sciences
