Job summary

Are you an experienced paediatric dietitian in inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs)? Would you relish the opportunity to develop your clinical leadership skills and co-lead a team of 6 specialist paediatric metabolic dietitians?

One of our clinical specialist / team lead dietitians is retiring next year .We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic paediatric metabolic dietitian to join our team within Royal Manchester Children's hospital (RMCH). The post offers the opportunity to join one of the largest and long established metabolic units in the UK.

To be considered for this Band 8a Clinical Specialist / team lead post you will already have a comprehensive knowledge of paediatric IMD with significant experience working at a Band 7 paediatric dietetic level or above leading and managing other staff .

Our metabolic dietetic team currently consists of;

2 (1.56 wte) Band 8a Clinical Specialist / Team Lead dietitians,

4 (3.24 wte) Band 7 dietitians posts

2 (1.6wte) Band 6 dietitians posts.

We provide a service to approx. 700 children covering a comprehensive range of inherited metabolic disorders. The metabolic dietetic team is co-located within the interdisciplinary metabolic team including doctors, scientists, nurse specialists and administrative staff.

You will work together with our current paediatric IMD Dietetic team lead to provide leadership, operational management, supervision linking in with the professional lead for paediatric Dietetics.

Main duties of the job

Clinically you will work at an expert level in the dietetic management of paediatric IMDs. Involved in the clinical decision-making process as part of the multidisciplinary team. Providing appropriate up to date evidence-based advice and education to families and colleagues promoting optimal management throughout all ages in this challenging group of patients.

Recent significant clinical dietetic experience in paediatric IMDs is essential, as is a comprehensive paediatric dietetic knowledge base together with evidence of post registration dietetic CPD and training (e.g. Paediatric Masters Modules).

Leadership training and knowledge of HR procedures and previous experience of line management is essential. Together with a proven ability to chair meetings, develop service and clinical guidelines.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills with a strong commitment to MDT working. You will need to be flexible, reliable, conscientious, self-motivated and have an enquiring mind. You will support the clinical supervision, learning and development of the band 7/6 dietitians and assistants within the IMD team.
