Job summary

Applications are invited to join the Specialist Nurse for Transplant Coordinator team at Wythenshawe Hospital.

We are the specialist centre for lifesaving heart and lung transplant operations for the whole of the North West of England - serving a population of over 6.5 million in five major cities - Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool, Sheffield and Leeds.

Transplant patients from across the UK also choose to come to MFT to have their transplants, based on our excellent reputation and survival rates. We have had patients from far afield as Scotland, Ireland, Dorset, Cardiff, and the lsle of Man. Our renowned Transplant team is led by Director of Transplant, Mr Rajamiyer Venkateswaran.

Main duties of the job

JOB SUMMARY

To work closely with the Trust's Multidisciplinary Transplant Team, NHSBT and the Donor Co-ordinators to:

Assess patients' suitability for transplant.

Register patients on the Transplant Database at NHSBT.

Monitor patients whilst on the transplant waiting list.

Organise all aspects of retrieval and donor management of cardiothoracic organs from NW region.

Organise all aspects of Cardiothoracic Transplants at Wythenshawe Hospital.

Be familiar with current legislation on organ/tissue donation and transplantation. Provide advice to colleagues and other healthcare professionals.

Maintain Royal College Surgeons Audit and internal audit.

Promote research-based practice by initiating and participating in appropriate research projects.

Maintain an effective communications network.

Educate and inform potential transplant recipients.

Promote awareness and disseminate information amongst health care professionals and the general public regarding the need for organs/tissues for transplantation.
