An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Speech and Language Therapist to deliver assessments, diagnoses and interventions to children within our community clinic team.
This is a full time, fixed term band 6 post for a period of 12 months. The Manchester Speech and Language Therapy Service is a city-wide service providing support to children who have speech, language and communication needs, including difficulties with feeding and swallowing, social communication and voice.With an excellent theoretical knowledge of paediatric communication impairments, and an understanding of the issues affecting an inner city, multi-ethnic community, you will have a particular enthusiasm to work with children in the community clinic setting.
You will have considerable experience of working with children and their families and possess excellent time management, problem-solving, analytical and reflection skills. With current knowledge of the implications of the 2014 Children's and Families Act, and a particular knowledge of SEND you will also have a thorough working knowledge and use of up-to-date assessment procedures and therapy techniques.You will be based within the community clinic team within the larger citywide service.
As a band 6 therapist you will be supported to contribute to the development of the service and to offer supervision to your colleagues.
In Manchester many of the patients are from families whose first language is not English.
Main duties of the job
The Manchester SALT team is a large, well-established and innovative department. The health and wellbeing of our staff is extremely important to us and we have our own Health & Wellbeing Champions to support our team. There is a good CPD process including clinical support and mentoring. There are opportunities to attend internal SIG's and peer support groups. We also offer a comprehensive induction programme, 1-1's and annual appraisals to develop knowledge and skills.

Main duties:
- To be a band 6 Speech and Language Therapist, in the field of community paediatrics - community clinic team.
- The post involves working in the location best suited to the patient's needs at that time. This will mainly be in clinics, however may also include: children's centres, early years settings, schools and the patient's home.
- To act as an autonomous practitioner with knowledge, skills and experience, assessing, diagnosing and managing patients on the caseload.
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of one's professional and clinical work, working to agreed national and professional standards.
- Some of the patients on the caseloads will have special educational needs.
- In Manchester many of the patients are from families whose first language is not English.
