Genomics Clinical Lead for Haemato-Oncology

Salary: Dedicated 2 PA commitment

The North West Genomic laboratory Hub (NWGLH) is 1 of 7 GLHs commissioned across England to provide core and specialist Genetic and Genomic testing for the North West Region (and for specific tests other regions) as defined by NHSE. It works closely with the NW Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (GMSA) and Regional Clinical Genomics Services to provide a comprehensive Genomic Medicine Service.

Working with the senior leadership team of the NW Genomic Laboratory Hub, specialist clinical leads and the senior leadership team of the St Mary's Hospital Division of Genomic Medicine you will advise on the strategic development and delivery of the Haemato-Oncology Genomics service ensuring effective integration of services and liaison with key stakeholders. This role is key to the development of a comprehensive, efficient, and high-quality integrated Genomics Laboratory service for the population of the North West. The role also involves working at regional and national levels contributing to NHSE's genomics strategy.

Main duties of the job

  • To represent the NW GLH at national policy and strategy meetings that require haemato-oncology (Haem-Onc) expertise coordinated by the NHSE Genomics Unit
  • Attend the National Haem-Onc Working Group representing the NW GLH
  • To be familiar with the process of horizon scanning and commissioning for new genomic tests to be included in the national genomics cancer test directory and to inform on Haem-Onc aspects required for implementation
  • To network with other GLH Haem-Onc leads, Royal College of Pathologists leads in genomics, local haem-onc leads and clinicians, and other key stakeholders in the haem-onc service as required to ensure national standardization and equitable access to genomics tests for patients with haematological malignancies.
  • Represent the GLH on matters of Haem-Onc genomics as appropriate e.g. in meetings with Cancer Alliances, NW Genomic Medicine Service Alliance, quarterly Assurance meetings with NHSE

Essential

  • Medical consultant with expertise in Haematology-Oncology
  • Proven experience of managing teams. Leadership at departmental level (lead consultant) or equivalent
  • A recognised regional/national/international expert in own field as evidenced by publication record or posts held

Desirable

  • Recognised expertise in clinically interpreting complex genomic information up to the level of WGS
  • Experience in developing clinical pathways and working across Trusts
  • Interest in genomics and desire to develop future applications within the field
